Griffith Family Smartphone User Agreement

Updated: Nov 6

  • I recognize that being entrusted with a cell phone is a privilege granted by my parents primarily because they want to be able to communicate with me. Since they are the ones paying for the service, I will gratefully honor the Griffith Family Cell Phone User Agreement.

Proverbs 4:1 Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight, for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching.

  • I recognize that a cell phone is a powerful tool for building relationships with others. I will use it to build healthy relationships and guard myself from being drawn into relationships that are detrimental to me spiritually and socially. I will be alert to the dangers of forming relationships that are private and/or exclusive.

Proverbs 13:20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

  • I will not allow my phone to draw my heart away from Christ or my family.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

  • I will use my phone in ways that are consistent with biblical, Christ-honoring behavior.

Proverbs 24:21 My son, fear the LORD and the king, and do not join with those who do otherwise,

  • I will not use my phone for flirting or building unhealthy relationships (as defined by my parents) especially with members of the opposite sex.

Proverbs 5:3-4 For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil, but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

  • I will not allow texting to divert my attention from other priorities (spiritual, family, academic, etc.)

Proverbs 26:6 Whoever sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off his own feet and drinks violence.

  • I will not dishonor or ignore those I am with by texting others.

Proverbs 27:10 Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend, and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away.

  • I will not use my phone will after 10pm.

Proverbs 27:12 The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.

  • I will not keep my phone near my bed overnight. I will recharge it out of reach of my bed.

Proverbs 25:28 A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

  • I will not send or receive portrait pictures. (If received, I will immediately inform my parents who will delete them.)

Proverbs 6:25 Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes;

  • I will not text while driving.

Proverbs 4:25-27 Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.

  • I will gladly give my phone to my parents upon request.

Proverbs 20:11 Even a child makes himself known by his acts, by whether his conduct is pure and upright.

  • If I lose or break my phone I will be responsible for the replacement cost.

Proverbs 19:19 A man of great wrath will pay the penalty, for if you deliver him, you will only have to do it again.

  • If I violate any of these terms I will immediately and humbly confess and seek the help of my parents.

Proverbs 28:13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
